Showreel Design

Image
A showreel is a short video showcasing a person's previous work and experience. When creating a showreel, you should remember to -  Keep it short - in this case less is more, include your best work to present yourself in the highest standard Think about the audience - Consider will the content appeal to those who will be viewing it Ask for feedback - feedback is always a helpful way of finding out what people like about your work, as well as the parts you could improve on, this way you can improve or make changes before sending it to perhaps an employer Analysing existing showreel's  I believe this is a great example of a student's showreel, for many different reasons. Firstly, the video begins showing the name of the production team, instantly telling the audience who they are, soon followed by the instrumental music playing in the background. Sound is an important aspect in a showreel since I believe it sets the tone of the video, and tells us something abo...

Constructing a Profile: Business Card Design

Image
Research into existing business cards  Upon looking into already existing business cards I have found a common theme runs throughout, this making them successful and professional looking. Upon looking into these products, most business cards contain just their logo on one side, and on the other, the business' information, contact details, etc. Something which stands out on this specific card is the chosen colour used, instantly making the it somewhat more recognisable than others due to the vibrancy.  When creating a business card, I think it is important to set a limit on the information included, since you wouldn't want to bombard your audience / client with too much information. By keeping it simple, like this card for example, it remains effective since there isn't too much information, but there is enough to be able to conclude a first impression on the brand / business due to how they have presented themselves. When creating my own business card, this is what I am ...

Constructing a Profile: Logo Design

Image
Looking Into Existing Logo's - Personally I think logo's where the main focus is an image or an icon, sometimes presented with little text perhaps underneath are the most effective in not just the media industry, but in any. The image in a logo is most important, and also effective because it remains memorable, and is the reason people recognise brands, for instance, this logo in particular, because the imagery is simple yet memorable, and while it is presented with little text, we know who they are and what we can infer from them. In my opinion, something all of these recognisable logo's have in common is how simple they all are - just a singular image, with only a small amount, if any, of text stating the rands name. The logo's that do include text, only include a small amount, therefore keeping it simple yet still remaining very memorable, and in this case, known all around the world. Each of these logo's are famous in their brand simply because they don't bo...

Analysis Of Existing Media Profiles

Looking into existing media profiles, I chose two people I look up to in the Media industry and researched into their digital profiles, as well as analysing them, discussing what makes them effective and what I'd like to take from those and add to my website in the future.

Constructing a Personal Statement

A personal statement is something which supports your application to move onto University or sometimes College. Your personal statement is your chance to explain who you are and why you'd make a good addition to the specific course, explain your skills set, talk about your past work experiences and opportunities, and more. When writing your personal statement, you talk about one thing - You. This is your first impression to those at either your chosen University, so it needs to count, as you're explaining why they should choose you and why you would be suitable.  It is important to avoid mentioning any Universities by name, as you only write one personal statement and it is the same for every course you apply for. For example, if you were to apply to a number of different universities, but only mentioned one in your personal statement, it would no longer appeal to the other Universities. Furthermore, avoid naming specific course titles, as again your personal statement should m...

Constructing a CV

Image
A CV (Curriculum Vitae) is a document which gives you a chance to show employer's who you are and what you have to offer. It sells your skills and experience, and showcases why you're the right person for the job. Your CV is your first impression to the employer, so it is essential to get it correct. Your CV should include: Your personal details - Name, contact details, address A personal profile - A small paragraph describing yourself as a person, summarising your skills and best qualities, as well as perhaps career aims Employment history and work experience - Begin with your present or most recent job, explain what the job is and the role you play, who your employer was and the date you began working there (if you no longer work there include the finishing date). When discussing the role, emphasise on the skills you acquired, as well as developed, and how these skills would appeal to an employer.  Education and training - Begin with your most recent qualifications, for examp...

Employment Search

For this task I have conducted research into the current job market, looking at potential vacancies in areas I take interest in when thinking about my future career path. I looked into suitable media companies, such as ITV and BBC, analysing each role and breaking apart what skills are needed, and further action that may be needed when going for the role - travel, etc.  The first job role I looked into was a Journalism Researcher role at the BBC. I decided to look into this role as the requirements are that you should be passionate for working on podcasts, which I think is something which could interest me now and in my future. As well as this, having researched into the company and seeing the content previously produced, the BBC have a large selection of podcasts which take my interest so that I am already passionate for the subject. I looked into what the role's responsibilities are, and they include:  A combination of regional knowledge, newswriting and research skills P...
